Wine tasting......

It's that time of year when we have to taste lot's of wines to choose the perfect ones for you to enjoy in the chalet. It's a tough, gruelling process and we hated every minute, but someones got to do it!

We thought we'd give you a sneak preview of some of the wines we have selected for our upgrade wine list.

Team Snowy Hills sampling the wine selection

We have chosen some fantastic whites starting with a local hero - Apremont.....this is a Savoie wine much loved in the region especially as it has an ability to cut through any cheese, perfect with Tartiflete or Raclette.

Another white we think you'll love is my favourite wine of all time Puligny Montrachet....this is an elegant wine from the Burgandy region in France known for producing some of the best wines in the world and this Puligny by Berthelemot is no exception. It's well balanced, with flavours of fresh fruit with a creamy texture, smooth and complex, simply delicious!

If you are a red fan then you will not be disappointed either. Sam's favourite was a classic right bank Bordeaux, St Georges-st Emilion, again an area in France with a rich winemaking heritage. This Merlot driven blend, with Cab Franc and Cab Sauvignon is a bit of a find. This 2012 vintage has opened up nicely and delivers soft black fruit and hints of cedar and leather, smooth and warming which is perfect for curling up in front of the fire!

We have selected another show stopping red made locally in the Rhone. This little known appellation is often overshadowed by the better known Chateauneuf du Pape. Grown on sloping vineyards along the river in the northern Rhone and that's also where the name comes from 'Cote Rotie' meaning roasted slopes. It is predominantly Syrah with a small amount of Viognier which adds depth of flavour as well as acidity to balance out the big rich flavours of the Syrah. It needs a couple of hours to breathe and once it has opened up the flavours are complex and unique, the quality of the wine is reflected in the price, but it's certainly worth it!

For the Rose drinkers we have the Mirabeau, Provence Rose. Delicate flavours of red fruit, dry and soft. Perfect chilled as an aperitif and versatile with food.

We do also of course have some very nice house wines that are complimentary with your evening meal! With the help of Pedro at Le Verre Gourmand we are sure that you will have wines you'll love!
